Change is in the Air
John F. Kennedy once said, “Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.”
This fall has brought many changes. District 153 has commenced a new era without Millennium School. James Hart has a new band director. Our 5th grade band teacher has a new baby! On a personal note, I’m starting a big new job on this month. Leaving the familiar can be stressful and feel like a loss. However, there are always bright sides to changes.
For example, now that the former Millennium School is vacated, the PMA is the recipient of a wonderful classroom all our own. We are able to store all of our supplies and chocolate, hold membership meetings, and work on our fundraisers all in one designated space. The PMA is very grateful to the District for this gift and for their continued support of the music program.
This is my last year as both PMA President and as a parent at District 153. For the past twelve years, my sons have been exposed to music education in a systematic and imaginative way and it has changed both of their lives for the better. I’m looking forward to all the concerts, fundraisers, plays, and special moments one last time before my time at District 153 becomes a memory. For all the parents just starting out in the District – enjoy every moment. Let your kids try the clarinet if they want, or join choir, even if it means getting them to school early. We are so fortunate to have this wonderful music education department. It goes by so very fast. I encourage you all to take full advantage of everything the District has to offer.
